My mother daily gives me a listening ear and tells me I'm doing a great job mothering Matthew. She listens when I question my decisions and reassures me with a reminder of a bigger picture down the road.
My mother-in-law is a supportive, encouraging, tender and loving woman. Her gift to me this year was this beautiful poem:
Mothers
Real mother don't eat quiche; they don't have time to make it.
Real mothers know that their kitchen utensils are probably in the sandbox.
Real mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids.
Real mothers know that dried play dough doesn't come out of carpets.
Real mothers don't want to know what the vacuum just sucked up.
Real mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?' and get their answer
when a little voice says, 'Because I love you best'
Real mothers know that a child's growth is not measured by height or years or grade,
It is marked by the progression of mommy to mom to mother
The Images of Mother
4 years old- My mommy can do anything!
8 years old- My mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 years old- My mother doesn't really know quite everything
14 years old- Naturally, mother doesn't know that, either
16 years old- Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned
18 years old- That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 years old- Well, she might know a little bit about it!
35 years old- Before we decide, let's get mom's opinion
45 years old- Wonder what mom would have thought about it?
65 years old- Wish I could talk it over with mom.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair
The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
because that is the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows,
and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!
My bonus mom sent these beautiful roses:
I look at this face daily and am so grateful I get to be his mommy:
Becoming a mother has changed my priorities, my focus and my view of the world. I can't express it a better way than to say I appreciate all of my mothers so much more this year.
The sacrifice of my mother getting pregnant with me when my older sister was only 3 months old (my oldest sister was not even 2).
My bonus mom stepping in to an already existing family with all of our idiosyncrasies and we haven't always made it easy for her
And to my mother in law. Now a fellow boy mommy also, it makes me be more intentional with my relationship with her. Lord willing, one day down the road I'll be a girl's mother in law.
I've stepped away from writing this entry twice this evening, first to store milk and then to calm, soothe and rock a crying coughing baby back to sleep. I was right where I was supposed to be. I love my family :-)
